Solutions for a sustainable energy system
The world is 1.1 °C warmer today than in pre-industrial times, and although the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decrease in CO2 emissions, global warming remains on the wrong trajectory. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a 1.5 °C increase in global average surface temperature will have devastating consequences for our planet, causing extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and climatic changes. The temperature increase is largely caused by the growing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, and energy production and usage remain the primary emitter. It is therefore abundantly clear that urgent change is needed in the world’s energy mix. For instance, according to the International Energy Agency, a 40 percent reduction in emissions by 2030 will require nearly 75 percent of global electricity generation to come from low-emission sources by this time.
To change our planet’s trajectory, the most cost-effective and immediate path to meaningful emissions reduction is large-scale deployment of renewable energy. However, as the penetration of renewable electricity increases, this alone will not be enough to avoid a temperature increase above 1.5 °C. We must therefore address the following three challenges:
Accelerate the deployment of renewable energy
Wind and solar energy only account for around 9 percent of the global electricity generation mix today;⁶ it is therefore clear that the deployment of renewables needs to accelerate substantially for the world to stay within a 1.5 °C scenario.
Drive society-wide electrification
Today, only certain elements of society are powered by electricity and renewable energy – in fact, only 20 percent of energy consumption is electricity.⁷ A key lever to creating a sustainable energy system is to drive electrification forward and ensure mobility, heating, and industries can be powered by electricity from renewables.
Implement solutions for non-electrifiable use
In some industries and sectors electrification is not feasible anytime soon. However, Power-to-X and green hydrogen are well-known solutions that show great potential to address the challenges we face – for example, by helping to shift steel production and heavy transport to renewable energy sources.
The concept of sustainability means being able to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
At SG, sustainability is grounded in our four corporate values: simplicity, collaboration, accountability and passion.
Sustainability at SG means reducing or eliminating negative environmental and social impacts, as well as maximising the value that our business and products provide for our customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, local communities, and the planet at large. It also means upholding sustainability in governance structures. We believe these efforts will help to elevate the standards of our industry as a whole.

SG Secures Major Wind Turbine Order in the US: Self-Developed Megawatt Direct-Drive Units Deployed in North America, Enhancing Clean Energy Layout in Latin America
In 2026, the global wind power industry is accelerating its low-carbon transformation. Various US states are successively issuing renewable energy expansion plans. The complex terrain of plateaus, deserts, and lakeside areas places stringent demands on the environmental adaptability and operational stability of wind turbines. Leveraging SG Wind Systems’ home R&D and manufacturing base in Colorado, USA, its full set of compliant tax qualifications, and DNV GL global certification system, SG recently signed an equipment procurement contract with a major US renewable energy development company, securing a bulk order covering multiple high-power DD direct-drive wind turbines. This achieves two-way synergy between equipment supply in North America and overseas project operation in Latin America, further solidifying SG’s competitiveness in both global wind power leasing and equipment manufacturing.
Wind power development in the United States faces significant challenges due to diverse topographical variations: extreme temperature differences between day and night in the Midwestern plateau, persistent sandstorms in the southwestern Gobi Desert, and high humidity and salt spray erosion along the Great Lakes. Conventional wind turbines are prone to issues such as reduced power generation efficiency and rapid component wear. After multiple rounds of on-site performance calculations and equipment performance comparisons, the US purchaser ultimately selected SG’s full range of customized large-megawatt direct-drive turbines. The order covers the SG 16.5-255 DD, SG 17.0-260 DD, SG 17.5-265 DD, SG 18.0-270 DD, and SG 18.5-275 DD main models, along with the next-generation upgraded SG 19.0~SG21.0 series units, all equipped with SG’s self-developed multi-environment adaptive control system.
SG has implemented specialized optimizations for the delivered wind turbines to address the diverse operating conditions across different regions of the United States: High-altitude models feature enhanced low-temperature start-up and wind energy capture modules for thin air at high altitudes; Gobi Desert models are equipped with fully enclosed dustproof and sandstorm-resistant structures; and lakeside models have upgraded corrosion-resistant and moisture-proof insulation components. Compared to industry-standard models, SG’s customized equipment achieves over 12% higher overall power generation efficiency in complex terrains, significantly reducing the total lifecycle maintenance costs and perfectly matching the long-term wind farm investment profitability needs of US customers.
This order not only includes the bulk delivery of complete wind turbines, but SG also simultaneously provides a complete localized integrated service solution, continuing the company’s mature industry collaboration model in the Peruvian market: leveraging the mature training system at its US headquarters, SG has established a dedicated wind power operation and maintenance training base for the purchaser, providing targeted professional courses in turbine operation and maintenance, on-site site management, and intelligent fault diagnosis, cultivating a large number of local wind power technical talents; simultaneously, it offers a 15-year full-cycle operation and maintenance management service and a global supply chain guarantee for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) spare parts, forming a one-stop closed-loop service from equipment delivery, installation, commissioning to long-term operation.
As a multinational wind power company registered in Colorado, USA, SG fully complies with US tax filing obligations, holds a valid EIN tax number and Dun & Bradstreet D-U-N-S code, and the project is covered by $80 million in Prudential Group project liability insurance. All trade, delivery, and after-sales processes comply with US federal energy regulations and commercial arbitration clauses, ensuring complete and verifiable compliance qualifications and eliminating the risks associated with overseas equipment cooperation in terms of qualifications, funding, and performance.
This large-scale order in the US will create a two-way empowerment model of North American manufacturing and R&D + Latin American project implementation. On the one hand, large-scale equipment production in the US will further reduce SG’s turbine manufacturing costs, providing more cost-effective turbine leasing options for wind farm projects in Latin American countries such as Peru, Chile, and Ecuador. On the other hand, SG’s mature technologies adapted to complex mountainous, coastal, and rainforest terrains will simultaneously support the development of wind farms with diverse topography in the US, bringing terrain-adaptive technologies proven in the Andes Mountains and the Peruvian coast to the North American market.
Building on this US order partnership, SG will further expand its North American supply chain and simultaneously develop microgrids and wind farms in neighboring Latin American countries such as Bolivia and Colombia. The company will continue to leverage its advantages in customized large-megawatt direct-drive wind turbines, establishing a complete industry chain encompassing “US R&D and manufacturing – global equipment supply – regional wind power leasing and operation – local talent development,” aiming to become a global benchmark wind power brand covering all terrains in the Americas and possessing both equipment manufacturing and comprehensive operation and maintenance services.
